Dutasteride
5-alpha-reductase inhibitor for an enlarged prostate (BPH).
Dutasteride is used to stop hair loss by blocking DHT, the hormone responsible for shrinking hair follicles in male pattern baldness. It's generally more effective than finasteride at lowering DHT (it blocks both major forms of the enzyme), often leading to reduced shedding and some regrowth. Its long half-life means effects last well after stopping.
How to Take
Take one 0.5 mg capsule once daily at the same time each day, with or without food. Swallow the capsule whole. Do not chew or open it. Improvement builds gradually over 3–6 months.
Warnings
Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant must not handle this medicine since it can harm a male fetus. Do not donate blood while taking it and for 6 months after stopping. Possible decreased libido, erectile dysfunction and breast tenderness.
